Savita was born and grew up in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, India. Her parents are Punjabis who moved to India as refugees in 1947 from what is now Pakistan.
Savita is the second of five children who are eighteen years apart from the oldest to the youngest. She has always loved kids and was more of a mother to the youngest than an older sister. After finishing college, she got married to a banker and started a series of postings in remote towns in UP, which is the lot of the manager of a nationalized bank in India. With her Master of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees, she always found a job as a teacher in the local school wherever her husband happened to be posted, and took care of her family of a husband and two daughters.
In the year 2000 Savita moved with her family to Australia where she continued to do what she does best, teach, until the middle of 2007 when she was diagnosed with leukemia. Savita lives in Adelaide Australia -- think Don Bradman -- and is undergoing treatment at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
